Electronic Engineer - ASIC Validation

Job Summary:

We are seeking a motivated Electronics Engineer to support our post-silicon ASIC bring-up including PCB and embedded system design, circuit characterisation and tuning, electronic testing and data analysis. This role offers the opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers, contributing to exciting projects while building foundational skills in electronics design and testing.

Key Responsibilities:

ASIC Testing & Validation

  • Work closely with the design team to understand the chip design requirements and formulate detailed test plans and strategies.

  • Perform ASIC verification and characterisation, including clock frequency, data throughput, power and thermal profiling, noise measurement, stability testing, and statistical testing.

  • Select key test instruments and tools required to complete ASIC verification and characterisation.

  • Use tools such as oscilloscopes and logic analysers to debug issues, identify design flaws, and provide feedback to the design team.

  • Compile all test results into comprehensive and detailed reports for clear communication and decision-making.

PCB & Embedded System Design

  • Design PCB for verification and characterisation of ASIC performance.

  • Develop and optimise test platforms and rigs for testing, ensuring robust and scalable setups.

  • Assist software and hardware teams in developing tools and systems compatible with the chip.

  • Assist in developing and maintaining professional development practices for firmware, code, and circuit design.

Test Automation & Optimisation

  • Optimise test setups and methods to improve measurement accuracy and facilitate seamless test automation.

  • Develop, maintain, and optimise test platforms and rigs for efficient validation workflows.

  • Work on automation of test equipment and validation setups to improve efficiency.

Performance Optimisation & Integration

  • Collaborate with the design team to optimise the chip’s operating environment, power consumption, and temperature to meet performance expectations under real-world conditions.

  • Assist in the development of ASIC datasheets and user manuals.

Cross-Team Collaboration & Project Involvement

  • Actively participate in strategic team meetings to align on design objectives and track project progress.

  • Work with cross-functional teams, including software, hardware, and manufacturing, to support end-to-end chip development.

Experience and Skills:

Essential: 

  • An advanced degree (e.g., Master’s or PhD) in Electrical/Electronics Engineering (or a related field), or a Bachelor’s degree (2:1 or above) with 3+ years of industry experience in ASIC validation.

  • Experience in ASIC testing and validation

  • Advanced proficiency in PCB design EDA tools

  • Familiarity with standard communication protocol such as I2C, SPI, UART, SDIO.

  • Demonstrable experience / examples in microcontroller (MCU) and FPGA programming, including design, testing, and debugging. 

  • Proficient in PCBA testing and debugging using electronic lab equipment (solder irons, oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, logic analysers, spectrum analysers etc.) 

  • Strong foundation in electronic components, circuit theory, and integrated circuits, with particular emphasis on data converters and signal processing methods and techniques

  • Working level proficiency in C, C++, or Python for test automation

  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and a proactive learning mindset 

  • Outstanding organisational abilities and strong attention to detail 

  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills

  • Understanding of basic project management principles

Desirable: 

  • Project portfolio demonstrating technical expertise

  • Proficiency in automating test equipment using GPIB/RS232 and network interfaces

  • Proficiency in PCB design using Altium

  • Proficiency in Cadence Custom IC design tool suites

  • Proficiency in SystemVerilog and UVM

  • Experience in DFT including scan chain, BIST, boundary scan testing. 

  • In-depth understanding of neural interfaces and bioelectronic circuit design 

  • Experience in low-noise circuit design and neural signal acquisition optimisation 

  • Expertise in power management circuit design for low-power neural devices 

  • Knowledge of safety-critical circuit design for neural and biomedical applications 

  • Familiarity with high-density interconnects and miniaturisation techniques 

  • Proficiency in IC test and validation techniques at package and board level (especially EMC and ESD)

  • Understanding of quality management systems (ISO 13485, ISO 9001, FDA medical device guidelines) 

  • Familiarity with statistical methods and analysis
